As previous comments mentioned, stereo separation is far more natural on monitors than headphones (not to mention headphones in mono sound like it’s inside your head while mono on speakers sounds like it’s in front of you).

It would be necessary that your choice of headphones cover the majority of frequencies though. If they can't physically output sub frequencies or high-end air for example, then you'll run into difficulties.
