Stop when the amount of thread showing is the same as what was recorded in the previous step. This will make sure your alignment is roughly the same. Install the castle nut and cotter pin. Re-install the wheel and lower the truck. WebCotter pins suck, but they are reliable. On my boat I use 3mm machine screws and nylock nuts instead of cotter pins. No pointy ends to snag sails and skin. There are a lot of other alternatives. Brion Toss has recommended welding rod bent to fit from top to bottom of a turnbuckle. Looks sharp, works. More effort to install.
